This investigation examines how density changes impact trough development in a specific coastal region, suggesting key influencing factors.
The roles played by the major components of density change during the develop-ment of an Australian west coast trough sequence are investigated by the application of Fleagle's (1948) density change equations. It is concluded that advected heat and surface-based heating are important components of the trough's development.
