Essay develops a feminist framework for ethical teaching and editing in higher education, suggesting new connections beyond capitalism.
This essay introduces the "feminist teacher-editor," a theoretical framework for teaching and editing ethically within the challenges of today's higher education landscape—and, necessarily, beyond. Reporting back from feminist recovery work on one of the earliest magazines edited by a woman, Charlotte Lennox's Lady's Museum —and drawing on Ross Gay's Inciting Joy —we make the case for unsettling teacher/student and editor/writer binaries. Such practices, we argue, contribute to purposeful and ethical work that expands the concept of "professionalization" beyond capitalist teleology and into feminist collectivity and connection.
