This analysis compares stability indices to weather patterns in Queensland, suggesting forecasting applications.
At Queensland radio–sonde stations for the period September 1957 to May 1958, stability indices for 800 aerological soundings indicative of the air mass types over the State were compared with subsequent weather, and classified into air mass and frontal types. The resulting frequency analyses for the respective stations are given in tabular and graphical forms. The particular value of the use of stability indices for "border-line" cases is discussed, and some suggestions given for forecasting changes in stability index.
