Exhibition catalogue presents artistic explorations of Collie's dual identity and cultural landscapes.
This 24-page catalogue was produced for the 2022 exhibition Seven Forms (Collie '22) at Collie Art Gallery, Western Australia. Seven Forms (Collie '22) brought together seven Perth-based artists to explore Collie's dual identity as a region of natural beauty and industrial coal mining and energy production. Through ceramics, digital photography, drawing, and printmaking, the artists reflect on the entanglement of human culture and the material realm, responding to the global shift away from fossil fuels and the transformation of former industrial sites into leisure spaces. The exhibition offers multiple perspectives on Collie's landscapes and heritage objects, from the river and lakes to mining tenements, coal fragments, and miners' artifacts. The project acknowledges continuity and change in this historically significant Western Australian town. The catalogue includes a curatorial essay, artist statements from each of the seven participating artists, and reproductions of artworks produced for the exhibition. The project was funded by the Department of Local Government, Sports and Cultural Industries, Government of Western Australia (now the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport).
