‘Amulets’ is like a sequence of a ritual thought, intended as a counterpoint to the prevalent heavy feelings of depression and hopelessness. As one of the main elements, the series has a set of photographs of amulets that Apparatus 22 produced for the Morpheus Buyback performance, which was an otherworldly gift exchange where they asked people to bring them nightmares. In exchange, they gave the participants intricate amulets charged with the energy of the collective. In a rather mysterious manner, each amulet is paired for this contribution with some snippets of old Romanian spells, used to highlight the need for magic, for the irrational, for hope. The texts function more like images–hieroglyphics or something that looks like a language from a lost world–mystical thoughts and ancient wisdom that call for rediscovery. Such attempts to imagine ways out of exhaustion by conjuring energies from other worlds are consistent with the practice of the collective. Since 2015, they have been imagining and unfolding a fictional Suprainfinit utopian realm infused with a peculiar mix of criticality and hope.
