The poet Maya Angelou said, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” I understand. In 1967, when I was nine years old and in the fourth grade, I had my first African American teacher. Mrs. Hisbon taught math and science and was my homeroom teacher. I learned a lot from her, but it was definitely how she made me feel that put her in the category of one of my all‐time favorite teachers.
