Develops a digital microscope to enhance learning in STEM education, suggesting eco-friendly microscopy options.
This study developed the Digital Pixel Microscope with Sustainable Design, Built-In Mobile Application, and Integrated Illumination, an affordable and eco-friendly innovation aimed at enhancing STEM education. The microscope utilized a recycled plastic base to promote sustainability while reducing environmental waste. It incorporated a USB-powered digital imaging system with an adjustable flashlight to improve visibility in educational and research settings. Additionally, the D’PixSCOPE Mobile Application, developed using Android Studio and Kotlin, enabled users to capture, store, delete, and share microscope images seamlessly. The research employed a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative insights from 23 Grade 12 STEM students and 3 science teachers from Emigdio A. Bondoc High School. Data collection included product testing, Likert-scale surveys, and open-ended responses to evaluate usability, portability, and learning impact. Descriptive statistics analyzed user satisfaction, while thematic analysis extracted key insights from qualitative responses. Findings revealed that the D’PixSCOPE enhanced learning by providing affordable, accessible, and sustainable microscopy for students and educators. The integration of a mobile application modernized the microscopy experience, offering a portable, user-friendly, and efficient alternative to traditional laboratory tools. Observations confirmed its durability, functionality, and ease of use, with sustainability efforts ensuring environmental responsibility. Future improvements may refine design aspects and explore broader applications beyond the classroom.
