Cortinarius (Pers.) Gray constitutes the most expansive genus within the family Cortinariaceae. This study presents the description of Cortinarius lijiangensis , a novel species identified through morphological characterization and phylogenetic analyses (ITS + LSU), collected from subalpine Picea‐Abies forests in Yunnan, China. Cortinarius lijiangensis can be distinguished from other Cortinarius by the maroon pileus with a pale grayish‐yellow margin and squamulose surface, maroon lamellae, and a stipe that tapers downward, displaying a purple hue in the upper section and brown squamules in the middle to lower portions. The comprehensive description, illustrations, and phylogenetic analysis results of C. lijiangensis , along with comparisons to related species within Cortinarius are provided here.
