Miniature sensor system estimates ankle and knee angles in volunteers during walking, indicating potential for improved gait analysis.
In this paper, a miniature wireless sensor system is developed to estimate the three‐dimensional angle of the ankle and knee during normal walking. For this purpose, two sensor nodes and a central node are first developed as measurement setups. The sensor nodes measure the movement variations, and the central node records the obtained data. To estimate the angular variation of the ankle and knee, a complementary filter is implemented on the raw data. The obtained results show the mean square error obtained from the estimated angular variation and the reference is less than 0.91, 0.86 and 1.6 for the angles of , and , respectively. Therefore, the proposed sensor can be used for movement monitoring of some volunteers who are walking and help them to reduce the errors that appear in their walking resulting in resolving gait problems.
