The research is aimed at establishing the state of the problem of forming a system of forecasting and land use planning, including as an institution of land management in general, forming the basis for further research in the field of regional land use, identifying the main trends and views. Methodology and methods: an expert Internet survey was conducted. Results and scope of application: A database of almost two hundred professional experts in the field of land management, land use, planning and forecasting of land use, working in the higher education system, scientific organizations, enterprises and institutions, including those with scientific publications on the subject of research over the past 5 years, has been formed. Based on the results of processing the questionnaires, a unified expert opinion was formed that the lack of forecasting and planning of land use in Russia can lead to negative consequences in the management of land resources at the regional and federal levels, as well as irrational use and land degradation. The overwhelming majority of experts believe that there is no system for forecasting and planning land use at the federal and regional levels, or it is under construction. Experts consider the main thing in industry forecasts to be a scientifically based assessment of the national economic demand for industry products and to determine the most effective ways to achieve it. The question of what should be the main sources of information for the functioning of a modern system of forecasting and land use planning has not found an identical opinion among experts and requires a more detailed assessment. Experts agree on the need to recreate a single body in the land management system. The results obtained indicate that it is extremely necessary to create an integrated information aggregation system based on data from the unified state register of lands and territorial planning data.
