Key Points

  • This research aims to evaluate the TyG index as a surrogate marker for insulin resistance in patients with Behçet's disease.
  • Conducted a case-control study comparing TyG index levels in individuals with and without Behçet's disease.
  • Assessed the relationship between the TyG index and indicators of microvascular injury.
  • Evaluated cardiometabolic risk factors in participants.
  • The TyG index was significantly higher in patients with Behçet's disease compared to the control group.
  • Higher TyG index levels correlated with increased signs of microvascular injury.
  • This suggests the TyG index may be useful in identifying at-risk patients.

Abstract

The TyG index is a promising biomarker for insulin resistance in Behçet's disease and may reflect cumulative inflammatory and metabolic burden that contributes to microvascular tissue injury, including in skin and ocular structures. Its use may aid in identifying patients at elevated cardiometabolic and microvascular risk, particularly those with long-standing disease.
