Critical Issues and Potential Implications for Optometry and for Optometric Practice Under Proposed Systems of National Health Insurance

Plans are proceeding at a federal level for the development of a system of National Health Insurance. Several proposals have been made which utilize various facets of existing institutional mechanisms or which propose the development of new institutional mechanisms. Implications for manpower development, social organization, economic and fiscal constraints, and educational requirements are discussed in the paper.
