Investigates sodium glutamate's impact on electroretinogram responses in albino rats, suggesting a minimal effect on a-waves.
Albino rats, whose retinas consist essentially of only rod photoreceptors. were treated with sodium glutamate. ERGs were obtained from these rats in response to stimuli of varying intensity, duration, wavelength, and during the recovery from light adaption. A small b‐wave was present whenever an a‐wave was absent. In the presence of an a‐wave the b‐wave appeared only as a very small positive deflection at the peak of the a‐wave. The a‐waves arc compared to those obtained from untreated albino rats under similar conditions. The a‐wave appears unaffected by the glutamate treatment.
