Mathematical models estimate tear volumes in spherical and toric corneas, suggesting implications for lens design.
The respiratory response of corneal epithelium to a lens statically on its surface depends on the volumes of tears and oxygen contained by the system. Described here for spherical and toric corneal surfaces are mathematical models for calculating such volumes associated with both corneal and haptic lens designs. Comparisons of model predictions with physiological observations of in situ systems are made.
