Historical study reveals the impact of policy and social trends on the natural landscape of Lake Oonuma.
This study used Lake Oonuma and its surrounding areas as a case study. Using administrative documents as the primary source and documents on social conditions including those of the private sector, it examined policies and trends concerning natural landscapes. Through the establishment, planning, and management of the park, it sought to understand, from a cultural perspective, the historical process of natural park landscapes: what was designated as the visual target, from which vantage points were intended to be viewed, and how facilities and information were developed to realize the visual experiences. As a result, this study revealed the effects of policy and social trends on Lake Oonuma’s natural landscape over time. It also confirmed that perspectives on the viewed subject, the spatial relationship between viewing points and the subject, and the facilities and information enabling the viewing experience are influenced not only by Lake Oonuma’s topography and geography but also by park administrative, social, and visual factors.
