Research explores RNAi applications with insect viruses to effectively manage crop pests, suggesting innovative solutions for agriculture.
AbstractRNA interference (RNAi) technology is a breakthrough approach to eradicate certain pests in agriculture by using the RNA silences genes in natural ways. This research article delves further into how RNAi may be coupled with insect viruses to enhance approaches for pest management while also having less of an impact on the surroundings. It examines how RNAi functions, including molecular mechanisms and how microRNA (miRNA) and small interfering RNA (siRNA) target specific pest genes. Case examples demonstrating how RNAi has been effectively applied with insect viruses to manage main agricultural pests abound. Emphasising how stable, long-lasting, and practical they are in the field, the study report also examines other methods to deliver RNAi, including viral vectors and nanoparticles. Although using RNAi and insect susceptibility combined is a long-lasting and accurate approach to get rid of pests, there are still obstacles to tackle including political concerns, environmental stability, and the possibility of having unintended consequences.
