A case report demonstrates integrative naturopathy and acupuncture improve atopic dermatitis in an elderly male, suggesting potential benefits.
A 71-year-old male patient, diagnosed with atopic dermatitis (AD) in 2020, presented to Nature Cure Hospital with complaints of rashes, excessive itching, dryness, atopy, scarring, and rough skin patches around the groin region, buttocks, and both thighs with a history of hypertension and type 2 diabetes mellitus for 10 years. He was administered integrative naturopathy and acupuncture (INA) treatment in a residential facility for 14 days. Results showed a significant improvement in Severity Scoring of AD decreased by 65%, Eczema Area and Severity Index decreased by 44%, the Dermatology Life Quality Index decreased by 28%, and the Investigator’s Global Assessment decreased by 66%. In addition, there was a reduction in blood pressure (systolic by 3% and diastolic by 13%), as well as fasting and postprandial blood glucose levels, which decreased by 10% and 11%, respectively. These findings indicate a possible role of integrated naturopathic treatments in managing AD. Thus, it could be considered a safe, beneficial, effective, and adjuvant therapy in the management of AD. However, further studies are necessary to warrant this effect.
