This paper reports on a comprehensive survey of munafuda (dedication boards) on early modern main shrine buildings of former village rank and above in Azumino City, Nagano Prefecture. Of 60 shrines surveyed, 190 munafuda were identified at 46 sites. From these boards, 118 carpenters’ names are confirmed, most of whom were non-official, private carpenters. Residences of 68 were confirmed: 53 lived within the Matsumoto Domain, mainly in Matsumoto Castle town and nearby areas, while 15 lived in regions such as Kiso, Echigo, and Suwa. These findings suggest diverse transmission of carpentry techniques and highlight need for further research.
