Interdisciplinary research and education are popular with many fields of study. While graduate education continues to advance, the most recent comprehensive literature review discussing graduate-level interdisciplinary education and training dates from 2009. This study explored current knowledge around graduate student interest in interdisciplinary activities; benefits and barriers to interdisciplinary programs; and improvements shown by graduate students associated with interdisciplinary education and research training. This narrative review examined current literature on interdisciplinary education/research to report findings, and to discuss knowledge on current topics. Current literature indicates graduate students are interested in interdisciplinary activities, identifies some benefits and barriers to interdisciplinary programs, suggests that students experience positive changes from interdisciplinary activities, and supports interdisciplinary training to improve graduate education. Through providing an updated review outlining interdisciplinary graduate education and research training, this study filled a gap in the literature.
