Comprehensive analysis reveals changing asthma mortality and prevalence patterns by gender, particularly in Haiti.
The Age-Standardized Rates (ASR) of asthma burden have declined from 1990 to 2021. South Asia registered the highest absolute asthma mortality (232,800) and DALYs (7.16 million) in 2021. Papua New Guinea, Fiji and Haiti recorded peak ASR, while the U.S., China, and the Russian Federation had the lowest. Prevalence and DALYs switch from male predominance <19y to female excess ≥20y, mediated by high BMI (females) and smoking/occupational triggers (males). Male DALYs fell 1990-2021; female DALYs rose in Low/Low-Middle SDI regions.
