This assessment reveals underuse of uricosuric agents for gout in the Asia-Pacific region, indicating unmet medical needs.
Key Points HLA‐B*58:01 testing is recommended before allopurinol initiation in Chinese and Southeast Asian populations, where this allele is highly prevalent, to avoid severe allopurinol hypersensitivity syndrome. Routine HLA‐B*58:01 screening is challenged by limited access to testing and associated costs, thereby restricting broad implementation, especially in low‐ and middle‐income countries. Uricosuric agents are underutilized in this region, and increasing their use in patients with uncomplicated gout could decrease the need for HLA‐B*58:01 testing.
