Quantifies the effects of mining on agricultural land use in Zambia, suggesting effective mitigation strategies.
Mining activities have significantly impacted agricultural land use in Zambia over the past decade. A Geographic Information Systems (GIS) approach was employed, utilising satellite imagery and census data from to . A spatial analysis model was applied to quantify the area affected by mining. The GIS analysis revealed a reduction in agricultural land use of approximately 15% within 5 km radius around mining sites. This study provides a robust framework for monitoring and managing the interaction between mining activities and agriculture in Zambia. Local authorities should implement policies to mitigate environmental degradation caused by mining, particularly focusing on vulnerable agricultural zones. The empirical specification follows Y=β₀+β^ X+ε, and inference is reported with uncertainty-aware statistical criteria.
