Simulation analyzes flood control effectiveness in urban areas, suggesting improved automation for rapid response.
In urban areas, flooding tends to cause substantial damage. In urban rainfall- runoff systems, rainwater that falls on highly impermeable surfaces is discharged into rivers through a sewer network. Because river water levels are often high, forced drainage is conducted at rain-pump stations. In the case of a flood, flow control must be performed rapidly due to the short arrival time; therefore, automation control is possible when expert experience and intuition are established into the system, further enhancing flood-control effectiveness. In this study, the performance and applicability of flood control were analyzed using a fuzzy inference model. Simulation results showed that flood control using the fuzzy system outperformed recorded control performance. Therefore, positive outcomes are expected when this approach is applied in practice.
