Urban Chad is characterized by a significant informal sector that contributes substantially to its economy. This paper focuses on understanding the dynamics of the informal sector in urban areas, providing insights into business practices within this segment. Data collection was conducted through structured interviews with a sample of 50 small-scale traders across four major cities in Chad. A combination of qualitative and semi-quantitative methods were employed to gather detailed information on sector dynamics. The informal sector in urban Chad accounts for approximately 40% of total employment, highlighting its substantial role in the economy despite legal constraints. Interviews revealed that many traders engage in multiple activities, reflecting the resilience and adaptability of their business models. This study underscores the importance of understanding informal sector dynamics to develop more inclusive economic policies that can support sustainable urban development in Chad. Given the findings, policymakers should consider implementing targeted interventions aimed at improving access to finance for informal traders. Additionally, regulatory reforms could be introduced to create a more conducive environment for growth and compliance.
