A difference-in-differences approach shows yield increases in municipalities with targeted infrastructure investments, suggesting improved resource allocation.
This study revisits municipal infrastructure asset systems in Ethiopia, focusing on the yield improvement analysis of these systems. The methodology employs a difference-in-differences (DID) approach to analyse changes in municipal infrastructure asset yield over time, with specific attention to pre- and post-intervention data from onwards. A notable finding is that the DID analysis reveals an increase of approximately 15% in yield improvement for municipalities implementing targeted infrastructure investments compared to those without such interventions. The study concludes that the difference-in-differences model provides a robust framework for evaluating municipal infrastructure asset systems and their effectiveness, offering insights into policy mechanisms aimed at improving resource allocation and efficiency. Recommendations include the continued use of DID models in similar studies to enhance understanding of infrastructure yield improvement and the need for further research on sustainability and long-term impact. The maintenance outcome was modelled as Yᵢₜ=β₀+β₁Xᵢₜ+uᵢ+εᵢₜ, with robustness checked using heteroskedasticity-consistent errors.
