Comparative study reveals challenges in PPE management and training among healthcare workers, suggesting tailored interventions are necessary.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare workers in Nairobi, Kenya faced significant challenges in managing patient care and personal protective equipment (PPE). The study utilised qualitative interviews with healthcare workers from Kenyatta National Hospital and Kisii General Hospital to capture their perspectives on the management of COVID-19 patients. Staff at both hospitals reported similar challenges in securing adequate PPE, but there were notable differences in staff training programmes offered by each institution. The study highlights the importance of tailored interventions and continuous monitoring for effective epidemic response strategies in healthcare settings. Hospitals should prioritise regular assessment and improvement of their infection control policies to ensure adequate PPE supply and comprehensive staff training.
