Abstract

Abstract: Imagination in Jean Giono’s work is a central component of his aesthetic, intrinsically linked to his sensory faculties. The Gionian universe unfolds as a realm shaped by a synergy between the senses and imagination, where each sensory perception enriches and animates the author’s imaginative vision. This article analyzes these two dimensions, placing particular emphasis on imagination while exploring their interdependence in the literary creation process. The novel Batailles dans la montagne illustrates this phenomenon, where mud serves as both the material and symbolic substrate of a formless imagination, embodying both raw matter and the creative potential of Giono’s thought.
