The article describes methodologies for analyzing infectious disease data in Russia, highlighting applications for public health planning.
The article considers the main stages of formation and development of the scientific sphere in geographic information technologies for the epidemiological surveillance of infectious diseases in Academician I.N. Blokhina Nizhny Novgorod Scientific Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology. The key results of the research are carried out within the industry scientific research programs of Rospotrebnadzor for 2016–2020 and 2021–2025 and they are also presented in the paper. The stages of development in the geographically distributed geoinformation software complex “Electronic Epidemiological Atlas of the Russian Federation” (GIS “Epidemiological Atlas of Russia”), as well as its structure are mentioned by the authors. The methodology of the retrospective epidemiological analysis performed to substantiate the long-term planning of preventive and anti-epidemic measures and including the analysis of the level, structure and dynamics of infectious morbidity is disclosed. It is shown that the basis of retrospective epidemiological analysis is multiyear databases on morbidity, with a certain spatial and temporal resolution. The conditions for the use of the methods (retrospective and operational epidemiological analysis) and their combination for predicting the epidemic process in the GIS “Epidemiological Atlas of Russia” are considered as well.
