Qualitative study highlights stress management needs in Nigerian city government employees, suggesting targeted interventions.
Mental health issues among civil servants are increasingly recognised as a significant public health concern in Nigeria, particularly within city government settings where stress levels may be elevated due to administrative pressures and community responsibilities. A qualitative approach was employed through semi-structured interviews with a purposive sample of civil service employees to gather detailed accounts of their experiences and challenges. The findings underscore the need for targeted interventions aimed at enhancing job satisfaction, improving workload management, and fostering a more supportive organisational culture among Nigerian city government civil servants. City governments are recommended to implement structured training programmes on stress management techniques, allocate sufficient resources equitably across departments, and establish mechanisms for open communication channels with employees.
