Qualitative research shows increased income diversification in rural households, suggesting economic growth opportunities.
Rural households in Mozambique often rely on agricultural income for livelihood diversification. However, mobile technology adoption has shown promise in enhancing economic opportunities. Qualitative research methods were employed, including semi-structured interviews with 50 randomly selected rural households across different regions of Mozambique. Focus groups and document analysis supplemented the data collection process. Mobile technology adoption has led to a significant increase in income diversification strategies among surveyed households, particularly in agro-processing and micro-enterprise development. The study concludes that mobile technology adoption is pivotal for enhancing livelihood diversification and income improvement in rural Mozambique. It offers insights into sustainable economic growth models. Policy makers should encourage further integration of mobile technologies within rural communities to support small-scale agro-processing industries and micro-enterprise development.
