Impact of Nozzle Geometry and Injection Timing on Hcci Engine Operated With Mahua Methyl Ester

ABSTRACT Homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) engines can achieve high thermal efficiency withvery low emissions of particulate matter and nitrogen oxides. However, managing mixture formationand combustion phasing remains a major challenge, particularly when utilizing unusual fuels. Thisstudy looks at how fuel spray angles affect the performance, combustion, and emission characteristicsof an HCCI engine running on Mahua and Jamun methyl esters. The trials were conducted using asingle-cylinder, four-stroke compression ignition engine that had been modified to operate in HCCImode by changing spray angles under constant engine speed and load conditions. Exhaust emissionsand brake thermal efficiency were investigated in relation to the multi-hole common rail directinjection injector with a narrow spray angle of 60° and a conventional spray angle of 156°.
