Analyses clarify botanic history from 18th century greenhouse sediments, highlighting plant diversity.
Five sediment samples were collected from The Woodlands Greenhouse Project for pollen and phytolith analyses to clarify the botanic record of plants grown in the area. Samples were collected from a mortared brick and fieldstone foundation wall and an associated surface. In addition, a sterile layer and overlying midden were sampled. The 18th century greenhouse/hothouse and garden features represent mid-1700s activities.
