In the course of deformation affected by the edge effect, the workpiece is divided into structural strain elements, forming plastic and rigid zones with different participation and role in the plastic deforming of a feed or a forging. In the course of rolling with an unfixed strain center, the process is achieved by means of metal shear displacement with the formation of a fragmented macrostructure in the plastic zones of the feed. Upon upsetting with a steady-state strain center, the process takes on a block-like character resulting from the interaction between the plastic and rigid zones of the forging.
