Research identifies Late Pleistocene glaciations in the lower Ob’ River area, suggesting significant geological evolution.
The paper is devoted to discovery of evidence of the Late Pleistocene glaciations in the lower reaches of the Ob’river. Facies analysis and genetic differentiation of the Quaternary deposits have been carried out for the sections in the Ob’ right bank from the village of Parovat to the Cape Kazym. A tripartite structure of the Yermakovo horizon has been established on the territory under study. Recognized here are the following beds: Pitlyar (Lower Yermakovian, glacial), Gorki (Middle Yermakovian, interstadial), Peliakh-Yugan (Sartan, glacial-dammed up). The validity of the Khash-Gort (Upper Yermakovian glacial) beds is given more thorough substantiation. Geological evidence of direct presence of the glacier in the Early and Late Yermakovian time has been recorded in the region investigated. The work is of interest to the scientists specialized in Quaternary geology, paleogeography, and stratigraphy of northern West Siberia.
