This study aims to evaluate the efficiency gains in South African manufacturing plants by applying a Bayesian hierarchical model. A Bayesian hierarchical model was employed to analyse data from multiple manufacturing plants. The model accounts for heterogeneity across plants by incorporating random effects that capture differences in efficiency levels. The empirical evaluation revealed significant variability in plant-level efficiencies, with some exhibiting substantial gains (up to 30%) compared to their initial operating conditions. The Bayesian hierarchical model provided a nuanced understanding of efficiency dynamics within South African manufacturing, highlighting the importance of context-specific interventions for improvement. Manufacturing plants should consider adopting targeted strategies informed by local data and expert insights to capitalize on identified efficiency gains. Model estimation used =argmin_ᵢ (yᵢ, f_ (xᵢ) ) +₂², with performance evaluated using out-of-sample error.
