The article discusses the discussion problems of the theoretical justification of the essence of the organizational and economic mechanism of development. In relation to the poultry industry, it is defined as an integrating subsystem for coordinating the requirements and incentives for the development of the industry based on the deepening of intensification processes in it. Groups of modern views and approaches to determining the essence of the organizational and economic mechanism of development are shown. It has been established that it cannot be reduced to economic regulation of only one management function or activity. External (market conditions) and internal (industry features, technologies) conditions for increasing the efficiency of the use of the organizational and economic mechanism in poultry farming are justified. It was concluded that it is necessary to use additional tools to stimulate the environmental safety of the industry. The prospects for poultry clustering should be accompanied by the search for additional sources of economic potential in the industry.
