Insights reveal how fathers cope with challenges of parenting children with autism spectrum disorder, suggesting new support strategies.
In this short article, the authors explore retrospective insights into the sense of coherence (SOC) among fathers of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Drawing on reflective accounts, the article examines how fathers make meaning of their experiences, manage stress, and sustain resilience while navigating the challenges associated with raising a child on the autism spectrum. The discussion highlights key components of SOC, i.e., comprehensibility, manageability, and meaningfulness, and how these factors influence paternal adaptation and psychological well-being over time. The authors emphasize the importance of recognizing fathers’ perspectives in family-centered support and intervention planning.
