ABSTRACT Based on the basic principle of upper limit method of limit analysis and strength reduction technology, and based on the condition that the two powers are equal (virtual power equation) when the sliding body is in the limit state, The formula for calculating the overall instability and the possible local instability safety factor of the multistage fill slope considering the difference between the fill and the foundation soil is derived. On this basis, combined with the sequential quadratic programming method, the safety factor and the corresponding critical sliding surface of the multistage fill slope are optimised. Based on the background of a multistage filled slope, the maximum relative deviation between the traditional strip fraction method and the calculation formula in this paper is less than 5%, which can verify the validity and feasibility of the method. The research results can provide a reference for the selection and design of multistage slope fillers.
