Key Points

The central aim is to understand how gwoka dance serves as a response to the silenced colonial history of Guadeloupe in France.
Conducted ethnographic fieldwork in gwoka dance classes in Paris and Guadeloupe since 2019.
Engaged with second- and third-generation Antillean migrants attending these classes.
Analyzed participants' narratives and experiences related to their cultural identity and historical consciousness.
Findings indicate that gwoka provides a significant means for dancers to connect with their Guadeloupean heritage.
Participants reported a strong affective connection to their historical and cultural identity through dance.
The concept of rézonans emerged as crucial for understanding the interplay between personal identity and collective historical memory.
