Theoretical aspects describe gravitational wave detection through microwave cavities, suggesting innovative approaches.
The basic physical principles underlying the operation of a gravitational waves detector based on two coupled microwave cavities are discussed. The general properties of the interaction of a g.w. and an electromechanical detector are reviewed and the properties of invariance of the four-momentum transfer in different reference frames are considered. Finally the interaction process is analyzed either in the detector proper reference frame or in the rest frame of the detector walls, pointing out the connection of the two descriptions and getting a full picture of the process.
