Research finds branching ratio of ∅ decay to ηa_0(980)γ in a large sample, suggesting new insights into particle interactions.
In a sample of 5.3x10^7 ∅-decays observed with the KLOE detector at the Frascati ∅-factory DAF∅NE we find 605 ηπ^0γ events with η→γγ and 197 π^0γ events with η→π^+π^-π^0. The decay ηπ^0γ is dominated by the process ∅→a_0γ.From a fit to the ηπ^0 mass spectrum we find BR(∅→ηa_0(980)γ)=(7.4±0.7)x10⁻⁵.
