To explore how depression affects the relationship between frailty and lower urinary tract symptoms.
Analyzed data from two large population-based studies in the US and China.
Assessed frailty index (FI) and lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in male participants.
Evaluated the mediating role of depression in the frailty-LUTS relationship.
Higher frailty index scores were associated with greater risk of lower urinary tract symptoms.
Depression was identified as a partial mediator in the frailty and LUTS relationship.
Abstract
A high FI was correlated with a greater risk of LUTS in both the US and Chinese men. The relationship between frailty and LUTS was partly explained by depression.
