VBVeneranda M. BwanaNMNahya Salim MasoudKMKarim P. Manji

Key Points

  • The study aims to evaluate how disclosing HIV status affects the quality of life and depressive symptoms in children with HIV.
  • Analyzed the relationship between HIV status disclosure and health-related quality of life (HRQOL)
  • Considered depressive symptoms among children living with HIV (CWHIV)
  • Emphasized the importance of timely HIV status disclosure
  • HIV disclosure was linked to improved HRQOL among children
  • No negative impact on depressive symptoms was observed
  • Highlights the need for promoting HIV status disclosure interventions

Abstract

HIV disclosure was associated with better HRQOL but not with any worsened depressive symptoms. Interventions that promote HIV status disclosure at the recommended age are therefore important in the care of CWHIV.
