This study deals with the training of teachers in the first half of the 19th century. The first part explains the norms which regulated education at ‘gymnasia’, that is, academically oriented secondary schools, as well as the training of teachers who taught there. The second part offers a list of all teachers who taught at three Prague gymnasia and one Prague ‘normal school’ in 1818–1847. This is followed by an analysis of newly acquired information with emphasis on the links between gymnasium teachers and the university environment.
