Abstract

Site 34CM24/25 is located in Comanche County, OK, on the east side of East Cache Creek, within Training Area 79 of Fort Sill’s East Range. Cultural materials at the site were recovered from two distinct geomorphic deposits. Radiocarbon dated bison bone produced calibrated date ranges of AD 1500-1650. Feature XU4-01 consisted of burned earth, ash, and chipped stone and bone artifacts within a sediment that appeared to be darker than the surrounding matrix. The matrix excavated from this feature was subsequently floated. Due to the fact that the sediment was described as darker than the surrounding sediment and was greasy to the touch, a sample (Sample 2) was submitted for organic residue analysis using Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) technology.
