This analysis evaluates slope stability in an open-pit mine after waste rock deposition, indicating necessary safety measures.
After the exploitation of coal on the site of PK POLJE D has been completed, the coal from the Eastern section of RB KOLUBARA will be excavated at the new mine, PK POLJE E. The area is characterized by a highly complex geological structure especially in its southern and northern parts and substantial water saturation. During 2022 and the beginning of 2023, some benches on the southern slope of the mine collapsed. Following a decision by the management of RB KOLUBARA, the spoil-disposal machine 06 was relocated to that zone of the mine to deposit waste rock masses and form a protective embankment to prevent further slope failure. This paper presents the results of a stability analysis of the newly formed waste rock bench (protective berm) created by the operation of the machine 06.
