Literature analysis reveals digital technologies enhance sustainability in logistics services, suggesting pathways for improvement.
This study presents an analysis of the literature on artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain and internet of things (IoT) for the sustainable development of the service industry of freight transport and logistics service providers (LSPs). Drawing on a sample of 444 peer‐reviewed articles (2015–2025) selected according to the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta‐analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, performance analysis, co‐citation, and keyword co‐occurrence mapping were conducted. Findings reveal a fragmented yet converging intellectual structure, with blockchain dominant in inter‐organizational transparency and coordination, and the integration of AI and IoT applied to intra‐organizational optimization and automation. The study identifies four thematic clusters and proposes a multi‐level framework linking digital technologies to specific supply chain processes. The contribution is threefold: (1) it advances theory by highlighting systemic configurations of technological adoption; (2) it introduces a triangulated bibliometric approach for knowledge synthesis; and (3) it offers practical insights for managers and policymakers engaged in the sustainable development of freight transport and logistics industry. Finally, this article supports future research on the impact of environmental, social, governance (ESG), digital maturity, twin transition and integrated technology governance towards the pursuit of supply chain sustainable development goals.
