Innovative metasurfaces enhance color display quality in high-resolution Micro-OLEDs, suggesting exciting future applications.
Innovative applications like near‐eye and light field displays drive future display technology toward higher resolution, making ultra‐high‐resolution full‐color pixelation with wide gamut and stability crucial. This work introduces a bio‐inspired single‐layer all‐dielectric transmission metasurface structural color, mimicking the mechanism of Anthocharis cardamines butterfly wings. The simplified, mass‐producible transmission metasurface structural color uses single‐layer silicon, combining its blue‐light absorption with cross‐shaped structural broadband reflection to achieve high‐purity RGB three primary colors. It offers a 108% sRGB gamut, over 85% transmittance, 25° angular stability, and is compatible with white Micro‐OLEDs for both full‐color and grayscale modulation. We further experimentally demonstrate that the proposed metasurface access AR system can achieve the color display effect. Its architecture with <200 nm thickness enables CMOS‐compatible fabrication, scalable backplane integration, and 1.2‐µm pixel scalability, positioning it for next‐generation AR/VR displays to address ultra‐high‐resolution and compact form‐factor challenges.
