Panel data analysis uncovers energy efficiency challenges in Ethiopian manufacturing plants, suggesting targeted interventions.
Manufacturing systems in Ethiopia face challenges that impact efficiency gains. A panel data estimation technique will be employed to analyse the manufacturing systems of plants across Ethiopia, focusing on energy use. The analysis reveals that Y = eta₀ + eta₁X₁ + eta₂X₂ + u where Y represents efficiency gains and X1 and X2 are inputs such as capital investment and labour productivity. Confidence intervals around the estimated coefficients indicate a 95% certainty in these relationships. The study highlights significant inefficiencies, particularly in energy use, among manufacturing plants across Ethiopia. Implementing targeted interventions to enhance energy efficiency is recommended for improving overall system performance and reducing costs.
