Abstract Global Complexity Stability Theory (GCST) proposes that the stability of any complex system is determined by the balance between three fundamental quantities: structural complexity C, rate of environmental change α, and recovery/stabilization rate γ. The theory asserts that instability emerges primarily from acceleration: when α exceeds a critical threshold relative to γ/C, the system accumulates instability debt, leading to bifurcations, multistability, and potential collapse.
